In recent weeks, there has been further easing of restrictions for community sport in NSW as we manage our return to swimming through the COVID-19 pandemic.
The NSW Stage 2 Update for Swimming Pools provides a good summary of the guideline for swimming pools as at 13 June. Also the Sports Venue Guideline posters for clubs and operators, participants and spectators can be used to print and display at your venues.
We are aware that some pools in our Area are yet to open, as facility owners and businesses assess the re-opening based on local considerations. There appears to be various interpretations of the Stage 2 guideline from some pools implementing swimmer per lane and some up to 6 swimmers per lane. If your club or facility require assistance in any discussion around these rules, please contact SMNE or Mark Heathcote, Swimming NSW.
Upcoming events and plans for returning to competition are as follows:
June/July | Return to Training | We anticipate more facilities will open over this period and squad training can commence for all swimmers. |
August | Club Races | We encourage clubs to organise Club night racing and similar initiatives to give swimmers an opportunity to return to racing. |
September | Swim League | Gala day format Swim League is planned by SNSW, including one in the SMNE Area. This is aimed at helping swimmers return to racing in a fun, relaxed environment. SMNE may host additional events/activities subject to pool availability. |
October | Long Course Competition | Resumption of competition. SNSW Qualifying meet. SMNE may host additional events/activities subject to pool availability. |
November/December | Championship events | Return to normality. SMNE LC Championships, SNSW Metro and SNSW State LC Championships. |
The following events are likely cancelled (to be confirmed shortly):
- All SNSW SC championship events including SC Metropolitan, SC State and SC Country events; SAL State Teams.
Dates for Swim League and the long course season are being finalised and will be communicated over the coming weeks.
Please stay safe and we are looking forward to the return of swimming events over the coming months.
