SMNE COVID-19 Update May 2020

Swimming Metro North East, Tue May 12, 2020 8:03PM

Over the past few weeks, as with every week through the COVID-19 pandemic, many things have changed!  Of recent, there has been positive signs on the horizon as restrictions ease and we are getting closer to a life that we are accustomed to, although we may still be several months away from complete normality.

On the 8 May, the Federal Government announced a 3 step approach to the resumption of sport, including guidelines for Swimming. Subsequently, the states announced their approach and timing to this 3 step approach with implementation approaches differing from state to state.  On 12 May, the NSW Government announced the easing of restrictions starting this Friday 15 May including “outdoor pools open with restrictions.”

We, at SMNE, recognise the fast changing nature of this crisis and our commitment to reassess the opportunity to hold events or development programs if the landscape changes over the coming months, however, given the latest Government announcements SMNE will be cancelling the SMNE Winter Championships and the Development Squad activities which were planned for May and June.

We hope that everyone can return to the pool soon and resume their swimming, but in the meantime, we wish everyone the very best in health and happiness.
